Peachtree City is known for its system of golf cart paths, which are strewn across the town and provides secondary means of access to almost any destination within city limits. Many households own a golf cart, and they are used as an extra vehicle for local transportation. Children as young as twelve may operate a cart on Peachtree City cart paths with a parent, grandparent or guardian in the front seat. Unaccompanied fifteen-year-olds with valid Georgia Learner's Permits are allowed to operate golf carts. Students at local McIntosh High School are even encouraged to drive their golf carts to school due to limited parking. The golf cart paths are also used by bikers, joggers, and pedestrians as a safer alternative to the side of the road. Peachtree City is home to a small airport, Falcon Field, which hosts a medium-sized airshow every year. -- Source: Wikipedia.com

Wanted: Workout novelty injection
01/04/2012

Next month I will have been working out consistently for 15 years. In that time I’ve been to innumerable classes in at least 10 gyms in three states, run and walked about 8,000 miles and amassed more than 130 workout videos plus a small closetful of exercise equipment. All that to say: I’m bored. It’s [...]

Coffeshop Campers
01/04/2012

Most of my coffeeshop transactions tend to be made on the run, as I’m usually there on the way to something else I’m already late for. But apparently some people who do have time to sit down with their drinks find themselves unable to because of other patrons who virtually move in. I didn’t realize [...]

Like night and day: How commuters change population numbers
01/04/2012

Ever wonder where all the other people stop-and-going around you during your commute are on their way to? Or how many people are in town during the week versus on the weekends? No? Well, just go with me on this. Suburb-to-suburb commuters outnumber city-to-suburb commuters in the U.S., but in a sprawling metro area like Atlanta’s, [...]

First order of business: Charlie and I are rejoining Tamra as metblogs contributors! In case you haven’t noticed, posting has been a little scant lately. We weren’t entirely sure of the site’s long-term stability following our, um, hiatus in February, but we are good to go now, in it to win it, and looking for new writers. [...]

Fill In the Blanks, Round 2: Downtown
01/04/2012

This former BP station at Ponce and Piedmont has been empty for about five years now. While the neighborhood apparently didn’t need two gas stations at the same intersection, perhaps it could use a coffee shop/sandwich shop/bakery on that corner. Ideally, it would be a place open for weeknight and weekend brunch and dinner. ?The [...]

The first of Atlanta Streets Alive’s two June events is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s ASA will take place along 20 blocks of what will become the first segment of the downtown streetcar’s route.  Guided bike tours will cover the entire route.   No bike? No problem. You can take a free [...]

RUMOR: What’s Missing in Downtown?
01/04/2012

I often find myself needing cheese for dinner. (Here’s a little insight into my culinary prowess: melt cheese on or into whatever it is you’re cooking, and it will taste better). I work in midtown and live just east of downtown and thus constantly curse the lack of “pick up some cheese on the way [...]

UPDATE Stole Cat
01/04/2012

The super-edgy suburban mall chain clothing store, Forever 21, has a reputation for ripping off designer’s work. This pops up from time to time with Urban Outfitters, too, especially with jewelry.   But this time … well, this time it looks like some junky-ass knock-off store stole from a well-known Atlanta artist. Bold.   R. [...]

Wich kind of food are they selling?

Gyros, I know. Philly, I know. But Sandwhiches? Maybe it’s a new kind of fast food. Not.

Rush Hour Zero

A Ducky Day
12/30/2011

The ducks were having a casual stroll on the grounds of The Carter Center library. The one on the left gave me a look, though.

Virginia Highland
12/30/2011

Virginia Highland is a popular area in Atlanta for dining, shopping, or just walking around people watching. Excellent restaurants, interesting shops, and the homes are as expensive as they are beautiful.

Grady Memorial Hospital
12/30/2011

Grady Hospital is Atlanta’s “catch all” hospital. Grady serves all people, insured or not. It’s best known as a Level I trauma center, Level I facilities having the equipment and personnel necessary to care for the most seriously injured patients. Grady is the only L1TC within 100 miles of metro Atlanta. You can read about [...]

Peachtree Center Avenue
12/30/2011

Downtown Atlanta, traveling toward Midtown. If you zoom in you can see the IBM Tower, the building in the middle, and right below it is Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Sightless Among Miracles at The Carter Center
12/30/2011

The inscription on the sculpture reads: For hundreds of years, a child leading a blind elder has been the fate of families stricken with river blindness,  onchocerciasis, in Africa and Latin America. Now the demise of this ancient scourge is in sight, thanks to a drug donated by Merck and Company and distributed to millions [...]

Gimme Shelter
12/30/2011

I hope he was able to stay dry and safe tonight. A severe thunderstorm came through Atlanta with hail and strong winds, causing power outages. I’ve seen many homeless people take shelter in these spaces.

Should I worry about bugs in my Christmas tree?
12/30/2011

by Cecil Adams As I was decorating my Christmas tree this year I began to wonder if I was putting myself at risk from insects. I don't like spiders much, and it would be even worse to have a Lyme-diseased tick bite me. Are Christmas trees fumigated, or are we bringing termites, etc., into our homes every holiday season?…
